I can't start a post using my NTL newsgroups reader, so I though I'd
subscribe to Google groups and try it that way. If it appears, can
anyone suggest why I can't post via NTL?
Strange......
I am using news.ntlworld.com as opposed to news.cable.ntlworld.com but I am
on cable. I think both end up pointing to the same server.
Using OE I went tools accounts add news.... then followed the dumb stuff. I
gave a name and an (yahoo) e-mail address. I did not tick the bit that says
the server needs me to log in so I did not enter a username and password.
It's on port 119, but it sets that by default. OK OK OK and then it asks if
I want to download the list of available newsgroups and off things went and
worked.
You might have to fiddle about with something in the connection tab. tools
accounts, select the news server, properties connection. I have had problems
in the past where it did not agree with something else so it did not work
but when it did agree it did work.......
Sometimes it won't post a message but leaves it in the outbox so you have to
force it by clicking Send/Recv. Then it might say no available connection so
you click on try again. Sometimes when you ask for headers it sits there
doing nothing so you have to click on stop and then click on headers again.
Ultimately it works for me so, for you, life is unfair....
