I can remember around 1960, a storm so bad in Cambridge/Boston.
everything shut down, buses, subways, everything.

So we walked several miles down the middle of thoroughfares,
completely devoid of cars, to a party in Central Square ;-)

Reminds me of New Orleans in the week or so after the eye of Betsy
passed directly overhead. The streets were layered with six feet of
oak tree limbs, power lines, and stuff ripped off houses. The first
thing people did was to clear a footpath in tbe middle of each street.
I had a Honda 50 motorcycle, so I ran around visiting people and
carrying messages. It was a couple of weeks before cars could drive
around uptown.

Speaking of disasters, we had a pretty good earthquake jolt yesterday.
Some people thought a truck had smacked into the building... it was
one big shove. I'm sure glad we put in all that steel.

I had a similar experience a few weeks ago in Sunnyvale.

I was awakened by the sensation that the bed jerked.

I was by myself AND sober ;-)
