Dear all:
My news provider (supernews) has become horribly unreliable--even more multiple posts, dropped stuff, and, worst of all, invasions from parallel universes full of underemployed aliens of ambiguous sexuality and no manners whatever.
What news providers do you folk use?
Phil, check with your ISP. I use DSL from AT&T. Newsgroup access is included in the deal, used to be a bit rocky a few years ago but is fine now and includes a.b.s.e. for schematics and stuff. They don't charge extra for newsgroup access.
Good suggestion, Joerg. Silly of me not to have tried before. I actually got Verizon DSL last month...I was sticking to dial-up while my kids were youngish, and Supernews was what my old ISP provided. Verizon news is a huge improvement--my last post showed up in a few seconds instead of tens of minutes.
I got DSL instead of FiOS because that lets me keep my copper connection, i.e. when my power goes out, my phone service runs on the central office batteries, not some poorly-maintained NiMH battery pack in my basement. It's also cheaper, involves no installation, and does what I need.
As far as the aliens are concerned, well, I knew that wasn't Supernews's fault--but can the regulars _please_ just killfile them? Feeding trolls is stupid. "Never wrestle a pig. You both get dirty, but the pig enjoys it."
Cheers,
Phil Hobbs
