Interesting, I didn't know Verizon could do copper. I thought it was mostly a cell phone and fiber company. My experience with DSL is that while POTS keep going during a longer power outage the DSL vanishes pretty much right away. Sometimes their dial-up numbers still work, sometimes not. Central office power for POTS is what I want to keep--it's important for safety reasons. Verizon is the successor to Nynex, which is the successor to New York Telephone (Ma Bell), so they own all the old copper round here. Dunno about elsewhere.

To be honest, I don't even know how to set a killfile in Mozilla. Even when selecting ignore on a "bar fight thread" it's still there.


Yeah, in Mozillas you have to use message filters. The good news is that when you're reading a message, there's a "Create Filter from Message" option in the Message menu. I usually just set the filter action to "Mark as read" instead of deleting the message--it causes fewer threading problems. Filtering is a bit quicker when you create the filters manually, from the Tools menu. You can do that server-by-server or group-by-group. For SED and ABSE, I have filters called "Idiots" (action: mark read), "Obscene idiots" (action: delete) and "Anatomy" (action:ignore thread). Cuts down on the noise level a lot.

You can also filter by subject and sender, so e.g. Jim can ignore everyone posting from Google or Hotmail.

One thing I miss from Netscape is being able to ignore a whole thread by pressing ctl-K in a message window.
