Never. We don't place as great an emphasis on social conformity here as
is the norm elsewhere. As a result, we get some of the best in their
fields as well as the nut jobs. Encouraging the best out of the former
requires that we put up with, and defend ourselves from the latter.

Individual gun ownership and the resulting carnage is just the price we
pay. The alternative would be a police state or strict social
conformity, either of which would result in a less free society.
