A real stand-alone newsreader is probably a lot better but I haven't
taken the plunge yet. If these bar fights here on usente continue I
guess I'll have to.
You could try pan, but if you're on windoze, it could be a PITA to
install.

FWIW, a plonk is two mouse-clicks away. Or maybe three - I don't recall,
since it's so not a big deal.
Have seen the term, but assumed it was another termfor use of filters.
Yes, "to plonk" == "to filter", i.e., you don't see even their headers.
How does one avail of that service, and can i go by terms in message
header?
Well, as I said, in pan, it's just a menu item. And it's got a whole bunch
of criteria that you can filter by. Your newsreader might be different,
I don't really know what features other newsreaders have.
Does what i do there affect others (hope not as my criteria is
undoubtedly different than anyone else's).
It only affects your own newsreader. The schtuff is still there for others
to see or ignore as they choose, but you don't have to plow through mounds
of garbage to get to the posts of interest.
Cheers!
