All attempts to regulate drug use through making it illegal have failed miserably.

So, then, what's your suggestion for an alternative?

I've concluded that the only workable option is decriminalisation of drug use and open
no-strings access to treatment for addiction.

Fully disagree. Ok, here are some hard and sad facts, personally seen: I have lived in the Netherlands for over six years where drugs are almost openly available. Right after moving there our landlady got the visit from police that nobody ever wants. They had found her only son floating upside down in a canal in Amsterdam. Dead, overdose. Next, I met a guy who walked around in a space suit, like a zombie. People told me he'd also OD'ed and it fried his brains, totally. They got him back from a full cardiac arrest. Sort of. Then there was a guy who could not talk anymore. He just kind of stared through you. All in a village of barely 5000 people. Should I go on?
