We can also add a short-circuit current limit,

it'll be a more suitable foldback type.

Can you elaborate? I've never understood how foldback current limiting
really works. Descriptions of example circuits in books and the 'net
occasionally point out that something has foldback, but they never
really explain how a circuit can have two different stable operating
points at a given current, and how it makes sure to be using the right
one.

One of these 840 answers might be
helpful:http://www.google.com/search?q=%22foldback+current+limit%22

Or he can read about it in our book. Doesn't have our
book? Then he can read it at Google's book pages, see
http://books.google.com/ and use as the search term,
"foldback current limit inauthor:horowitz inauthor:hill"

Actually I found that your search term did not work for me, but it was the
first hit (out of 641!) when I just typed "foldback".
