It's been decades since I've seen a drive that doesn't self-park.

Unless drives these days don't even _need_ to be parked, in which
case "self-parking" would be kind of superfluous. :-)


Then why do manuals and people (including some here) advise against turning the power off without shutting down? To me this whole concept of having to shut down a PC never made sense. Unless it is because of, ahem, sloppy engineering inside the PC. All the equipment I ever designed can be powered off without notice and I don't plan to do otherwise in the future. Anyone who has ever traveled to places like eastern Europe knows why.
