"A 19-inch flat screen monitor used three hours a day will cost around
15 euros (20 dollars) less per day than a similarly sized cathode ray
tube monitor, assuming a price of 18 cents per kilowatt hour"
15 Euro cents less a day maybe ? Sounds more like it.
Nah, it's more than likely meant to be euros/dollars per *year*.
It would have to save ~300W to be cents per day, and that's not
credible. 100W might be reasonable if you assume a ~150W 21" monitor
would have similar viewing area to a ~50W 19" TFT.
Well, I looked at some figures a while back. My Sony 21" CRT consumes 130W. The
replacement LCD I looked at used 44W. So that's an 86W saving.
How many hours use a day ? For work I suppose that would be 8 hours and if it's
left on over lunch say 9 hours, saving 774Wh. At 18 cents / kWh that's 13.9
cents.
Close enough for rock and roll !

The article, in the portion I quoted above, states it was based on 3
hours/day.
