Not really.

Relatively few ppl actually practice religion in the UK for example these days
and there is no 'fundamentalist Christian' streak here that seeks to deny
science on religious grounds.

You guys are for sure on your own here. But why is it that an American would
seek to suggest that the moon is a 'mini-sun' made by 'God' ? Is your education
really theat poor or are teachers subjected to pressure not to reach science
that contradicts religious belief ?
