Seven-year-old Muslim boy stopped in US on suspicion of being a
terrorist
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_arti...
For seven-year-old Javaid Iqbal, the holiday to Florida was a dream
trip
to reward him for doing well at school.
But he was left in tears after he was stopped repeatedly at airports
on
suspicion of being a terrorist.
This kid - isn't the first one this happened to. There were some
American's - I believe a few to have been "political" figures - who
were
stopped under the same conditions - their names matching names on a
watched
list. So - what's the point?
The point is .... are your immigration etc really stupid enough to
imagine
a seven year old on holiday
is a terrorist ?
I could entirely forgive the first time it happned but for it to be
repeated and repeated again ? Are
your databases that incompetently run ?
Yes, it is a system with a few quirks - but it isn't like "he" was the
only
one - stopped. And I DOUBT it was for being a "terrorist". His name as
the
story said - "matched" another on that infamous list. He was no more a
terrorist than those above - mentioned. I do feel for the child, but
again,
he isn't alone in that having happened.
Let's hope he "doesn't" grow up to be one of the assholes who helped
create
the situation - to begin with.
He's expressed a desire never to visit the USA again so I guess you
guys
left your mark.
Graham
"I" didn't design the system, nor have I had any occasion to be put into
it
in so far as travel or to be scrutinized - so I can't speak for it in one
sense or another. No system - is really fool proof - no matter how hard
you
may try. As to names on the list, I know of a name which I won't mention
here - but I know of 15 of them right in this one area. IF there are many
many more - they would all be held until cleared if "ONE" with the same
name
was on that list and these other's hadn't yet gotten their name along
with
other information - cleared.
I'm not exactly defending what happened or saying they were 100% right in
the things that transpired. I am saying - if the people "hadn't" done
their
job, they may have been fired. Yeah, they may have had great pity and
compassion for the child, but they were going to policies and procedures
"they" didn't create.
If you had a similar situation and you were afraid to lose your job due
to
trying to cut corners out of pity or compassion - would you? Put yourself
in
their shoes. Blame those who created this mess - from them who were
responsible for acts that got the system created - to those implementing
certain criteria - by which "innocents" are nailed until proven innocent.
In
all situations, you should "Critique" what happens, to try to make things
go
better in the future. Those folks "may" have been able to make
suggestions
for such changes in the future. We'll have to wait and see. When you have
BILLIONS of people - many with same names, maybe it is time to develop
another form of ID akin only to that person - be it the Eye,
Fingerprints,
etc... to be scanned onto said database.
You are calling "American's" stupid.... Did you ever stop to read posts?
Many of us aren't too damned happy with the way things are here - and we
LIVE here. But we still have a lot to be happy for - so - most let many
things go by.
It isn't a perfect country - nor a perfect world. You can't blame us all
for
what a percentage does. What if we didn't like "your" individual
personality
and decided to blame all Brits - for being Lunatics - based on the
dislike
for you? It wouldn't be fair to the bunch - now would it? Instead of
painting with a Broad brush, use a smaller one - you might make more
friends. AND one more thing - I've read up on some things done in England
which "I" wouldn't be too keen about - but ya know what - "I" don't live
there- so why the hell should I care? Yeah, if I went through that
system -
and got detained, I'd be pissed too. For one - I don't travel by plane,
boat
or train. Two - I don't have a criminal background or plan to. But, I
have
to realize too - they're doing what they do - because they are "told" to.
Nothing is perfect. If it was, we wouldn't be debating this issue - or
having any of the other problems we face in this world.
I don't know if it can be believed, but CNN just this evening had a
report
on of " Religious Warriors" - they're covering Christians, Jews, Muslims.
One lady - who's religion I didn't get to hear - sent her 13(?) year old
son
out to be a martyr - and she was proud of it, if I heard correctly. So -
there ya go - those people are training their kids YOUNG - to die and
kill.
Would "7" be too young? THAT - "I" can't answer and won't try to. As I
said,
I can only hope that boy doesn't grow up to be like the extremists.
You are as stupid as those making the stupid decisions.
It "appears" to be "my" post you replied to....... And if so - "why"?
State your reason. I only said the people were doing their jobs - for which
"they" had no hand in making the policies - procedures. They're basically
"rent a cops" - no legal background/training. If they don't do their jobs,
they get fired - simple as that. I don't know too many who will have enough
compassion for a 7 year old to lose a paycheck to stop them from feeding
their own family. Many innocent people have been caught in that system -
regardless of age or stature. The system isn't foolproof. Critiqueing events
may help eliminate future acts of futility. As to the CNN report - do I
believe it? No - not exactly. I was just stating a report was being done. I
can't say a "7" year old would be too young to train, but seems to me, many
Vietnam Soldiers had issues with kids 13 or older (based on things told in
person and on news). The child "could" be a "participant" even if not of his
own choosing - if someone thought they could sneak something through with
the child. There's an old saying which I believe says - "believe only 1/2 of
what you hear". I know how the media works - been around it and seen it's
screw ups. Much as they'd like to make you believe they're 100% accurate -
they're not - they seem to go for the sensationalism/ratings over accuracy.
Personal reports? I wasn't there to prove or disprove any of it.
So - just what part of that was "Stupid"?
