It really doesn't matter. As long as it's profitable, they'll keep doing
it. And it's profitable because some people would rather take an airplane
than a train or bus or drive themselves, even given all the "security"
crap they have to go through.

The Free Market, if unleashed in her full power, would solve the "oil
dependency" "problem" in short order - when the ground runs out of oil,
and it becomes prohibitively expensive, people will stop using it.
