I suspect they're trying to "protect" the home user -- if you really were in a
business, the IT guys would have joined you to a domain and group policy would
have reconfigured all the network security stuff such that "it worked."
A nice surprise: This Dell Vostro is remarkably quiet and doesn't get nearly
as hot as the old one.
Dell does know how to make surprisingly quiet PCs.
One way they do it as I discovered with my neighbour's PC is to use 5400 rpm HDDs.
Just don't expect it to be fast. His 2.4GHz P4 is about as fast as my old 600MHz
P3, maybe even slower.
