Damn! Look just like home. (I grew up in West Virginia ;-)
This does explain alot.
You have to be a leftist weenie... you have no sense of humor.
I left WV just as soon as I graduated from High School,
Valedictorian, with a full scholarship to MIT, 49 years ago.
Well, you didn't leave soon enough...
I switched from liberal sucker to conservative earner AFTER I
arrived in Arizona, 45 years ago ;-)
Kennedy started some kind of massive Appalachian welfare program
which only a few years ago was formally recognized as one the most
dismal wastes of money ever. The area is hopeless. There are
places worse off than West Virginia. The counties in the east
abutting Virginia are nice, but it rapidly gets bad as you move
westward into the state.
Welfare is corrosive. What they need are jobs.
More than that, they need the ability to do a work of having a job.
They need to free the schools from the choke-hold of the unions, and
keep the iron fist of government out of the equation.
When I was in school, back when you had to walk 10 miles uphill both
ways through 12 feet of snow, the school I went to won prizes for
accomplishment and was entirely paid for by local money.
Thanks,
Rich
Just as bad is the disconnected yuppie parents, whose child "can do no
wrong" because it could hurt their standing at the club.
