Please don't attempt to speak or all Americans. We appreciate them enough
that we can tell when a highly touted European beer is crap.
Just a generalization to illustrate a point.

You can't dispute the fact that Miller, Budweiser, Coors, etc.. are
among the most popular beers in America. They either like the beer or
are so weak minded that they believe the advertising - take your pick.

Not disputing that there are bad European beers, I don't get to sample
them all so I can't make that judgment. But the ones that make it
across the pond are, generally speaking (again) better than US beers.

Anybody remember "Miller high life - the Champagne of bottled beer"?

Actually, Miller isn't too bad, and their "Genuine Draft" is quite
drinkable.

Coors, that's known pretty much around the country as "Colorado
Kool-ade"; I've never liked it.

I wouldn't drink Budwiser if you gave it to me - well, OK, if that
was all I had... ;-) But I really liked Michelob.

My wife and I had some Olympia at the
brewery many years ago. Really nice,
faintly sweet with none of the bitter
staleness it seems to have everywhere
else.

Black Butte Porter from the Deschutes
Brewery in Bend, Ore is good if you
like dark, heavy porters.

I'm not fond of English ales, but I
still have to put in a good word for
Courage Director's.

But the bottom line is that nobody can
make beer like the Swabians. Give me
anything from München over the best
of the rest of the world.

I like the Hefeweizen Wheat Beer that Larkin introduced me to.
