THE South is as explicit a location designator as THE Bay Area.

I know of only two states, in THE South, Louisiana and West Virginia,
that fit that description, and West Virginia "officially" is a "North"
state.

Perhaps also Mississippi, but they're actually now progressing quite
nicely.

All the rest of THE South are nicely industrializing.

If you look at internal migration patterns in the US (not including
immigration), IIRC, the North is losing people and the South is
gaining.

Where do you think "Research Triangle Park" is located?

And where are the Toyota manufacturing plants?
