It's ALREADY happened; there is a precident.
It was going at quite a clip while you were growing up
and were establishing a working life.

The point is that too many old fat farts
are no longer supporting fundamental scientific research[1]
so that new technologies might be derived from them
--stuff that will benefit their grandchildren.
