Maybe spammers don't know what "FPGA" means yet.

Is there a way to protect this group?

Over the last 2 weeks,

Rich Webb has described how he is configuring Hamster.

Jim Thompson

has been doing the same with nfilter.

Useful data.

[sig]improve-usenet.org/index.html

The improve-usenet.org site
is written by a guy who would cut off his nose to spite his face.
He describes blunt tools
and doesn't detail how to whitelist useful Google Groupers.

And I'm working on filter schemes to eliminate the master-baiters from
visibility ;-)

However, ultimately it can lead to the demise of newsgroups. Not all people can install filters, for example not on corporate PCs. Others are just occasional visitors and for yet others a proxy is too complicated. Eventually we won't have critical mass anymore.

We should all write to Google and other companies where this spam originates. I did. But unless lots of us do that nothing is going to happen, they probably just won't care what this does to their own reputation.
