I've been involved with American car makers since 1962.

There ARE engineers that deal with "door thump" and other body issues,
like squeaks and rattles. These engineers have NOTHING to do with
engines and transmissions.

I think modern day IC engines are quite well-engineered...
particularly the Japanese ones.

On the other hand, yesterday, my next door neighbor (the
anesthesiologist) had the monthly tow away of his BMW because it
wouldn't start... I guess it was too cold ;-)
