Heating water with electricity is insane. That's rare in the US; most

Aside from offering CA best wishes, the current market share is
apparently around 50% for each in the US and Canada. There's also a
small chunk that use bottled gas (eg. propane) and a handful (<
150,000) of solar installations. Maybe there are heating oil fueled
water heaters, but I've never seen one.

That's common back East, a combined central-heating furnace and water
heater, run off heating oil. Also insane.

What's insane about it ?

Gas-->heat-->steam-->rotation-->electricity-->convey to house--
convert voltage-->make heat. Kinda complicated & lossy compared to
"burn gas, make heat."
