I bought an Austin-Healey Sprite, $2085 new, when I was 20, and got

Saw an elderly lady at Costco. She bought a used Austin Healey Coupe in
1961 and still drives it today. Her first car and most likely also her
last. Said she'd probably sell it for more than she paid even when
adjusted for inflation once she decides to quit driving. I guess that
woman must be the automotive industry's nightmare.

Only the car makers'. Given the amount she must have paid in parts and
labour to keep that Healey's wheels from falling off, she's probably the
ideal customer for parts makers, junkyards, and garages.

That's why I prefer Japanese. It's rare indeed when you see a
British-made car around here. But you see lots of Mercedes and BMW's
dead on the side of the road... they don't seem to do well in the heat
;-)

My Q45, on the other hand, can sit in stopped rush hour traffic,
idling with the A/C on, and never over-heat.
