PCB has gotten a lot of development in the last few years. Nets certainly
are associated with wires on the board.
The learning curve of gEDA is steep, but there's a lot of power there, too.
If you are a programmer (even just moderate scripting skills) you will
appreciate the easily understood text file formats that let you do things
like generate an 1156BGA footprint without clicking 1156*n times.
One of the exciting PCB developments is a GSOC project working on a
topological autorouter for PCB. Cool animations here:
