You are wrong too but less so. Go listen to what Obama really said

area.
Maybe true elsewhere, but not in the clip you supplied.

Which part are you suggesting isn't true. I believe that everything
int he paragraph above is true in the clips I provided.

As I said, I was originally responding to mpm's comments re: the
market effects of an extra million barrels of oil a day.

Yes but this is a very different question than the issue of what Obama
really said vs what McCain's folks are claiming he said.

I haven't any knowledge or interest in who said what about whom. I
was responding to mpm.

So then why did you suggest that Charlie was right? This seems like a
major tactical error on your part. It was a little like suddenly
referring to UFOs in hanger 19 when arguing about aircraft. It
damages your credibility. Charlie asserted that Obama claimed it
would save millions of barrels per day. No matter how many faults you
may find with Obama I assume you will agree that Obama isn't dumb
enough to make a statement like that.

FWIW, in your clip Sen. Obama said:

"There are things you can do individually though, to
save energy.
o Making sure your tires are properly inflated.

Simple thing. But we could save all the oil that
they're talking about gettin' off drilling, if
everybody was just inflating their tires.

And, and getting regular tuneups? You could actually save
just as much."
--Sen. Barak Obama

From this speech as it stands, it seems Sen. Obama thinks that
better tire inflation and drilling would yield equivalent amounts
of oil.

The "they" he is referring to is the McCain campaign. If you listen
to the McCain speeches, McCain is talking of drilling off the coast
where the states would allow it. That basically means only in the
Gulf of Mexico because all of the west coast is not willing risk its
other marine industries and on the east coast, New Jersey and Florida
are the only states that seem inclined to allow it. This is an
important part of the context.

Given that Obama is speaking of a practice that starts producing a
fuel savings now and continues to do so forever, no matter how much
oil there may be in the new areas drilled, he remains correct because
forever is such a long time. Even just limiting ourselves to about
the same time span as the drilling matters to, (now till the last
barrel is pumped) the savings is still large enough that it is
reasonable to suggest that the saved oil may be more than what is
found. Remember that both numbers are estimates and the amount of oil
is an "oil company estimate" so the number of zeros may be off by 20%.

You also have to remember that there is politics going on in the
senate while folks are also running for president. Both McCain and
Obama are involved in a debate about some new laws. Obama wants there
to be some new efforts on conservation and renewable energy. McCain
is opposed to everything but drilling. McCain has now said he would
agree to allow some small new efforts if he gets his drilling Obama is
saying he may allow drilling if he gets his new efforts. They will
meet in the middle.

Also FWIW, I consistently get 20% better than EPA mpg rating by
accelerating gently, coasting to stops, and not rushing
at red lights.

That'll save heaps more--let's call it the "Arthur Plan."

Ok lets call it that. I will tell two people today that a very smart
person named Arthur suggested it. You can have all of the credit.

Oh, and I turn out lights that I'm not using. Should I
apply for carbon credits?

Sure apply away! It should be good for a giggle.
