Most people here are very bright, so fear not about that.

Graham thinks that he has a genius-level IQ, so you may have to
recalibrate the significance of his "very bright".

I get frustrated with Graham becasue he falls into the error of emotional
responses, not because I think he's mentally incompetent. I have an
issue with soem of his *behaviors*, but that's an entirely differnt
matter from makign assumptions about him as a person, or his mind. It's
the Golden Rule, but also self-preservation - I can't deal with the stum
und drang, as it deistracts me from things that are important and
meaningful to me.

I also try to not invovle myself in interpersonal insult-exchanges,
becasue IMO *both* parties diminish themselves when they stoop to that
sort of behavior, and I simply want no part of it - I talk to whomever I
please, regardless of anyone else's opinion of that person. ((Which
attitude has made me enemies, and even cost me promotions, but Oh Well.))

You're missing the point entirely. They don't want to change our
lifestyl
es
just to make them sustainable. They want to PUNISH people who expect
a reasonable standard of living.

This is a claim Graham makes from time to time. It doesn't reflect
George Monbiot's published attitutudes, but then he may not be the
kind of dedicated "green movement" character that Graham has in mind.

My main objection to his statement is the use of "they", which can too
readily encompass "anyone who is cncerned about the environemnt".

OTOH, sad to say but yes, there are *some* poeple who at least *seem*,
given their own words an dactions, to want to punish those who want a
reasonable standard of living - it's one thing to debate what constitutes
"reasonable", but *every* issue has its extremists and bitter
misanthropes. THey key is to put effort into ignoring the extremists,
and concentrate on the actual issue.
