As Joel said, ok for "normal" resistor values but not for current sense
shunts and stuff like that. However, I wouldn't ship things like that
because chances are that mechanical stresses will eventually fracture
the solder bridge and then you've got a grumpy customer. Then another,
and another ...
I'm sure it's always best to have good solid connections ;) , but it is
interesting that such a thing is more tolerant than I'd expected. Good to
know (in the "small errors aren't necessarily catastrophic" department ;) ).
- If a component can't reach the place on the board it's supposed to
connect to, would it be workable to solder a small additional bit of
wire that's the same material and diameter as the component's
connector?
For a prototype, why not?
I'd guess, though, that for a production item, or an item to be provided to
an end-user, that sort of patch would bee too prone to breakage.
