"IT'S not your imagination. This is shaping up to be Brisbane's coldest
winter in years with minimum temperatures about four degrees below
average.
So far this August Brisbane has averaged 7.4 degrees in the morning
compared with 11.4 degrees at the same time last year.
Bureau of Meteorology senior forecast Vikash Prasad said the long term
average for August was about 10 degrees.

All this GW *** reminds me of the Y2K craze.
Keep throwing out predictions and you are bound to get SOMETHING right.
we are in the longest drought in recorded history, and according to
geologists, the longest for several thousand years.
we in Melbourne have been on water restrictions for about 5 years now
- every year, the reservoirs go down.
The Murray-Darling river system, our "agricultural breadbasket" is
drying up. Debate raging on how to save the freshwater lakes at its
mouth.
Hotter than usual summers here. (for years) (My garden is stuffed, no
more European plants, all are moving to drought resistant natives -
as for lawns, forget it - drinking water is too precious to waste on
grass)
Thriving industry in greywater recycling. And rainwater tanks.
Warmer winters too - this is the first one for 10 years its actually
been cold for the last week!
More extreme weather events, ie storms - last one took out the power
for weeks in some areas. Monsoon rains in Sydney. Cane toads moving
south.
And who's to say this wouldn't have happened ANYWAY ?
Climate is not, nor ever has been static. Christ, we're having a cool
August up here in the UK.

(my wording with m for month, d for date, and each may be 1 or 2 digits,
although m is 8 for August.) (I expect validity to only exist for days
completed and noted there so far for 2008.)
For example, for August 9:
http://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/EGLL/2008/8/9/DailyHistory.html
Cumulative deviation from "average" for 2008 from 8/1 to 8/19 is:
2/19 degree F *downward* for daily high temperature
74/19 degree F *upward* for daily low temperature
36/19 (1.895) degree F *upward* for daily average temperature for 8/1
to 8/19 2008
So how do you manage an August that is cool, unless a warmish August
your way is cool? Oh yes, an average August or one a bit over a degree C
warmer than average in UK is "cool weather" to those with expectations
of summer weather to be warmer than the average summer weather of London
or San Francisco (not much warmer than Seattle, Vancouver, Anchorage or
Fairbanks!)
