There is that old saying, "Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day;
teach him how to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime".

Welfare doesn't "teach people to fish".a The problem isn't that poeple are
given money, the problem is that they are given a permanent income with
absolutely no requirement for them to do anything - IOW, a reward for non-
learning, non-adaptability, inability (or refusal) to cope.

In fact, if one is on welfare, one is *not permitted* to take any sort of
classes, i.e. job training. Which is just plain stupid - it ought to be
largely *contingent upon* people taking job training.

((Different from disability of course - a lot of folks who are disabled
*want* to work, but have limited options re: what they can do physically or
even mentally, such as in the case of brain damage.))
