The US has not had humility since WW2. That's alright, this current

It is my proper citizen's job to chastise my government when it goes

Why does humility matter? What matters is the fortunes and lives of
the least fortunate in the world. This isn't some political game for
them.

IMO, becuase humility helps both an individual, and a nation, to approach
others as valued equals rather than as underlings.
The Europeans have more than enough humility to go around. It takes a
good deal of arrogance to believe that you can and should change the
world, and Lord knows, the world needs some changing.

I think that the semantic of "humility" is the only differnc Ihave with
your statement;) - looking up the definitions...
OK, it's messy -
:The quality or condition of being humble.:
hum·ble (hmbl)
adj. hum·bler, hum·blest
1. Marked by meekness or modesty in behavior, attitude, or spirit; not
arrogant or prideful.
2. Showing deferential or submissive respect: a humble apology.
3. Low in rank, quality, or station; unpretentious or lowly: a humble
cottage.
tr.v. hum·bled, hum·bling, hum·bles
1. To curtail or destroy the pride of; humiliate.
2. To cause to be meek or modest in spirit.
3. To give a lower condition or station to; abase. See Synonyms at
'degrade'.
What I'm thinking of is: "not arrogant or prideful".
I don't think that it requires arrogance to believe one can/should change
the world. It's *common*, but unnecessary.
I think that what would be an example of arrogance is insisting that the
entire world be exactly like oneself, becasue one believes everyone else to
be inferior or "less human".
I think an example of non-arrogance is to want to change the world becasue
one believes in encouraging the best aspects of Human potential and wants
to reduce human suffering, even if only in some small way.
