My Whirlpool Duet gets a tachometer(not tacometer ;) error but I'm
unsure
where the error(F06) is actually originating.
A tech doc is at
http://fixitnow.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/06/whirlpool-duet-component-testing.pdf
which has a wiring diagram at the bottom.
It's either the tachometer, the MCU or the CCU or something inbetween.
The unit does spin during rinse cycle's and such(not sure how fast as
it's
only for about 1 second every 30 seconds or so) and it can free spin
just
fine(so nothing stopping it)
I hooked up a volt meter on the tachometer and spun it myself and I
would
get several volts or more(on ac). (although one time it didn't work)
Where did you measure this? Right at the pickup or at the tach input to
the control unit?
What with all the vibration these things experience, I'd suspect a loose
connection somewhere. At any rate, that would be the cheapest thing to
fix and best to eliminate before the parts people start selling you
expensive stuff.
I looked at the connections among everything else and it all seemed fine.
Turned out it was the input circuitry and specifically the first resistor
after the tach. I finally ended up measuring it and it was bad so I
replaced it and the machine works but every once in a while will trip and
give the code.
I do not know what is wrong with it but since it can at least wash a load
with just a few errors and they can be "recovered" it is much better.
I'd like to fix it completely but I do not know what's wrong with it and
don't want to screw it up.
I did use different resistor values and they all were worse. My guess is
that there are other weak components that are causing the problem but
since I don't know which and it's a random thing it's going to be too
difficult.
About the only thing I want to do is probably replace the TL431 voltage
reference since this is right after the resistor but I don't have one
handy. I might do it or I might not... depends on how much more trouble
the washer causes. (and there are a lot of other components after the vreg
that could be bad that I'm not going to at all mess with since I have no
clue what they are there for.
I hope you realize, Jon, that with all the time you've spent on this, and
considering the price of a brand spankin' new washing machine, you've
effectively paid yourself $3.25/hr to fix it.
The good news is, however, that we'll know who to call when one of our
appliances breaks.
