In reality, 600 ohms is dead. The cable is 100-110 ohms anyway, it was only ever
telegraph lines that were 600 ohms.
Dumb donkey.
So what characteristic impedance are they then Mr Expert ? Do you know how to calculate
it and why was AES3 defined for use with 110 ohm cable ?
Almost no pro audio gear today has to drive 600 ohms, although the ability to do so
is often preserved. 5-10K ohms is a more likely load Z.
Wired intercom (Telex, ClearCom, RTS, and such) uses 200 or 300 ohms
(600 double terminated). I'm sure glad I don't have to drive 8V
into 2X-double terminated 100-110 ohms.
Intercoms are NOT pro-audio.
That depends on the application. All audio in a TV studio is pro
audio.
You could care to define it that way but it's obfuscation. It's quite clear intercoms are not
the subject of this paper.
