Saw some of these
http://www.logical-lighting.com/pdf/LEDHPModuleWhitePDF.pdf at the local
electronic candy store, and used a couple to build a small
battery-powered emergency lantern. Trouble is it gives my wife stabbing
pains in her eyes to be around it while it is turned on (but not me...)
One person suggested it might be pulsing, like fluorescent lights, some
of which do the same thing to her. I scoped the power going into it and
*that* does not seem to indicate pulsing. Am in the process of building
a phototransistor detector to see if the *light* pulses. This thing is
really bright, but it doesn't bother me at all. Am wondering if it puts
out some frequency on the high end that is jabbing her optic nerve. If
anyone has any ideas as to how to troubleshoot this, I would love to hear
form you. Ideas on something I could use as a diffuser are also
welcome...
Here is a data***-

Any ideas on what the square graph at the bottom means? Does it have
something to do with the frequency of output, or is it just an indicator
of usable viewing angle?
Many thanks,
Dave
Wife got in on the game, and suggested parchment paper as a diffuser, in a
"lamp-shade" configuration. I cut the bottom out of a plastic bottle,
covered it in parchment and taped it in place. Works great. Two LEDs
give off light like a 40-watt bult, which doesn't sound like much but in
the dark it is incredible. Lamp not sits on the shelf in the study,
waiting for the lights to go out. <shaking head> I married a smart
woman.

::::sigh:::
Lamp NOW sits on the shelf in the study...
