Re: Leaving Usenet and heading to Google Groups

I just canceled my SuperNews subscription. Seems there are not many free readers around. Times are tough and it makes little sense to pay for access to what is written here. I rarely post anyway. That leaves Google for reading. So be it.

Thunderbird _is_ free. Using it right now, works just fine.

Your ISP doesn't offer newsgroups? $10-15/year too much for a 3rd party server?

I do not know about this group compares with others for off topic posting, but this group really has little to do with electronics. It is mostly blather about everything else - present post included. The sages of the industry who gather here might know their craft, but their opinions on everything else diminishes the esteem in which they could be held. Occasionally there is a pearl of wisdom. But not enough to justify a monthly charge. Time to go tend the fields. I have a new crop of bits coming up.

But it's that occasional pearl of wisdom that counts. The other banter can be fun at times, too. Ok, before major US elections it can become like a packed brewpub an hour before the Superbowl game.

Anyhow, good luck with Google. Since they are spewing so much spam many people including myself have that blocked, they won't even see your post or know about it. Since Google chose not to respond to written complaints I doubt they will ever improve their standing in that respect, thus remain blocked.
