Global warming has been thoroughly detectable in Australia recently.
Some parts of southern Australia are temporarily inaccessible because
of the recent bushfires
Well, I was told on the news (BBC) the fires were caused by an
arsonist.

Some of the fires might have been ignited by an arsonist, but once the
bush gets dry enough, a lightning strike will work just as well. It
takes a prolonged period of hot, dry weather to get the bush dry
enough to burn, and once it is dry enough to burn, something
eventually gets it burning.

The Australian bush has relied on burning *for its propagation* for
thousands of years and will continue to burn. The only variables
are how deep the drought has been, and how long fire has been
prevented (leading to fuel buildup). We need *more* fire, not less.
When the fuel load is high enough, the eucalyptus generates these
explosive firestorms at an intensity quite unlike any that occur
elsewhere, including in California.

That said, I live in Melbourne, and the drought, and Black Saturday's
weather, is very scary. This day was 3degC hotter than any previously
recorded, with high winds to boot. The drought has lasted ten years,
with only 2mm of rain in Jan and Feb (c.f. normal is about 80mm), and
the water supply situation is a real worry. That said, there is some
evidence that this is a return to weather patterns that have pertained
for hundreds of years, with the last fifty being unusually wet.
