I use Google sometimes too, when traveling. It's not
too bad.

Why? When traveling I use the same ISP as here, with a regular
newsreader. I would not use Google out of principle because of their
behavior WRT spam. Or rather, lack of behavior.

Because when I'm using someone else's computer and ISP
for access, what choice is there?

APN (Agent) amongst many other news servers are available irrespective
of ISP.

Server, yes, but unless I misunderstand you need a newsreader
installed, right? Which I can't politely do on someone else's
computer.

So, I'm content to fall back to Google. Handy when I'm, for
instance, in some South American internet cafe, or a truck
stop in New Mexico, etc.

You don't carry your own laptop?

...Jim Thompson
Nope.

I've sent an inquiry to Agent Support. Agent uses an INI file, so it
may be functional as a carry-along on a memory stick or zip-drive,
without needing conventional installation.

That is heavily frowned upon for hotel computers. Some have all ports
mechanically blocked, mostly all you can do is print a few pages.

I was thinking in terms of being within the bowels of a client
corporation and needing to use their network.

I'm using a guest WiFI connection at our compliance lab now (very nice
of them), though I can't use a newsreader from work anymore. The IT
droids have blocked access to NNTP servers. I can't even seem to get
to the port-80 address for Individual.net.

I don't do anything with hotel computers except download my boarding
passes... since I don't carry a printer with... projector, yes,
printer, no :-)

The rooms almost always have a network connection.

As cheap as you are though... Motel 8 ?:-)

I've found that the cheaper the hotel the *more* likely to have free
internet access. Some of the three and four star hotels charge as
much as $15/day for WiFi. I use POTS, just on principle.
