This is a nice example of the key difference between science and
religion (and why creationism is not science).
Science is self correcting, the fakes are found out. Scientists are
always actively searching for places where the current understanding
breaks down, trying to prove themselves wrong. (An idealised picture to
be sure, but true over the long term and is the process that science
at least aspires to be.)
Religions are the opposite. Absolute Faith is held up as the
ideal. Things are made up, stories are told, and they endure, mutating
and combining occasionally, for 4000 years.
