Here's a question for you. Since most Atheists deny the flood of
Noah, how did the fossils of fish get high up on top of mountains?
Are you serious ?????
No, I'm fishing, I like to lure unbelievers into telling me about plate
tectonics and then show them it in the Bible.

Genesis 1:
2 Now the earth was formless and void,... 9 And God said, "Let the water
under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear." And
it was so

So, how did the author of Genesis know about about the earth being
formless with the land under the water and the land rising out of the
water?
He made it up.

He was wrong, it would seem. Which is hardly surprising unless you believe
in divine inspiration.

The Earth was formed by acretion of material from the protoplanetary disc.
It was initially molten (inevitable given the enormous gravitational
energy released by the process). Eventually it cooled enough to form a
solid crust, some time *after* that it was cool enough for liquid water to
exist on its surface.

Couldn't it have been an allegory, similar to Aesop's fables? Did they
have talking foxes back then? No, but it tells an understandable story.
Essentially, the information was presented in a context that was
understandable to the people at the time. Remember, back then the world
was flat and the Sun was a giant lightbulb in the sky.

At least, that's what "everybody knew". >:->
Well sure, but in previous ages it would have been interpreted as
literal truth. It is only in recent times, now that the literal
interpretation is obviously nonsense, that it is just "allegorical".
Most cultures have creation legends. Only those of Christianity
attract such abuse.
I'm happy to have it remain as - one of many - creation legends.

But there are people who teach it as literal fact to children, that
believe the whole document to be literally true, that it should be
the basis of of our laws.

It is these people I would ridicule.

Now you're talking about fundamentalist Islamists. Fine, please
ridicule them. In the USA, schools can't even mention creationist
theories, some of which are worth mentioning.

Don't be ridiculous. Creationist "theories" are complete mumbo-jumbo.
