Huh? All the Toyota Pickups and Hilux I've seen were of cast-iron
robustness. Many are well past their 20th birthday and not a worry in
the sky. A neighbor has one of these from the 70's and despite the fact
that the previous owner had grossly neglected it (oil turned to molasses
and stuff like that) it's still purring along just fine:

DOn't know about the Julux specifically, but Toyota (and Nissan) have
a terrible reputation with construction types.

In Europe construction guys used to like the Nissan Patrol (not sold
here). My wife's car is a Toyota, 1995 model year. Other than a window
motor (warranty) not one minor glitch in all those years. Ok, we don't
drive much and it's around 40k miles.

If you look in places like Africa those Japanese trucks are almost the
only brands you see. Because they last. In many areas people don't know
what a pavement is because it doesn't exist.

That has interesting ripples. Ford will now have to sell cars to
government agencies while in competition with <gasp> Government Motors.
My bet is that if Ford can last for another 12-18 months they're going
to be rolling in money. ...

The word "if" is the key word here. Also, I'd be real leery of the
warranty. But so far they are doing ok.

F will either triple or pull a GM. "If" I knew it would last two
years I'd buy every share I could. I still may buy a thousand or two.

now I'm not so sure--they'll have to compete with Obama, and he
doesn't even have to make money.

True, but they don't have to make cars that anyone wants, either.

OTOH, Government Motors will be making Obama's favorites, and
they might not sell well.

Exactly. Ford will be able to charge more fore what people really
want. After three years, pent-up demand will be the biggie, IMO.

I see a fair chance that he wrecks GM & Chrysler, and takes Ford
with him in the bargain.

If they can last the year to 18 months, I don't see how they can fail.
The unions will certainly try though.
