Are you quite sure you don't want SM2?

Dial-up is impossible; 1 hour at best.
Please be kind to include relevant programs
- especially if they [are] also large.

The reason you are asking this
is because you can't get a proper download manager
working on your Win9x system. Right?
* Well, GetItRight sometimes works, and other times is bastardo.
But main reason is to be able to get webpages to *SHOW*; it is not nice to see *nothing* in the window and the note below "done".
IE5 seems to not have that problem, but i hate to use it...

Firefox 3.x / Gecko 2.x has a INTEGRAL download manager
that can now RESUME broken downloads.
* That i like..VERY useful for my dial-up "connection".

SeaMonkey 2.x (currently in alpha) uses that same core.

If you patch your 9x kernel with this 3rd-part extension

http://x86.neostrada.pl/KernelEx/
you can get NT-only stuff working (e.g. OpenOffice 3.x)
under your ancient OS.

* Oh my!!!
Maybe that patch will allow me to use the ASUS drivers for my video and audio...(refuse to load, except works for Win2K).
Hot damn!
