If you wire a house with Cat5e you normally fit RJ45 face plates (eg the
ones used for a network) and then you use an adaptor like this to connect a
phone to it...
This particular adaptor is designed for UK phones...

I think for the USA you use RJ45 plug to RJ11 socket adaptor?
