What is the Wiegand Format ?

Is there a specification of it somewhere ? I had no luck doing an
online search...

It's an asynchronous communication-protocol, mainly used by proximity and biometric readers. IIRC, it uses 50µs pulses, separated by 2ms periods.

The 26-bit-format is most common, and consists of a startbit, 24 bits of data and a paritybit. There is no standard for the data itself.
