why no powestrip to add outlets to a UPS?

UPS (backup power) warn against connecting powerstrips to the output to
create more outlets. Why is that?

My unit has two outputs only, one for monitor and one for PC. However, I
would like to add my DSL modem to it as well since it draws very little
power and makes a big difference in the "quality of life during brownout" --
if the modem gets rebooted, I'd have to wait a few minutes to get back
internet.
