Hello,

I was hoping that someone might be able to help me select a suitable
motor speed controller, or inform me how I might be able to select one
myself. I know next to nothing about this topic, so hopefully you guys
can help. :) Here are the motor's specs as recorded from its plate:

1/3 HP
60 cycles
1 PH
1725 RPM
110V / 6.0A
220V / 3.0A
CONT. RAT. (I have no clue what this stands for...)

Type: RAR (or this..)
Frame: 63
Model: W20BF4663
No: 413682
Manufacturer: Wagner Electric

Any help provided will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Enki

This might work:

Key words in the description "AC-DC-universal" - it only works with
motors that can run on DC as well as AC (some power tools). Do NOT
connect one of these to your motor!

For an AC only motor, you need a VFD (variable frequency drive) which
is expensive (can be more than the cost of the motor). The VFD
changes both the frequency (lower than 60Hz) and voltage (lower than
120 volts) to slow down the motor while retaining most of its torque.

Thank you very much for your reply, John. So if I want a motor of
similar functionality but with variable speed, basically I would need
a new motor. What type of motor would you suggest? Also, do you know
of any good places to buy something along these lines?
