Someone here said that the MnO2 is thoroughly mixed with powdered carbon,
from which it can't be separated. According to the Handbook of Chemistry
and Physics, pure mangangese was originally discovered by reducing manganese
oxide with carbon. So, maybe the mixed in carbon is an advantage if one wants
to use the battery to produce pure manganese.
