You must contact Mits parts department or their parts rep to see if they
still have the service manual available. The manual used to cost about $40
for this model, if I remember correctly. If it is out of print, it is
possible that Sams Publications may be able to sell a copy of the manual to
you.

As for troubleshooting these sets, they can be a challenge even for the
experienced tech, espeicaly when the fault is in a critical part of the scan
circuits, or power supply. There is a point where parts will have to be
tried in order to test the related circuits. It is very possible that the
flyback and the HOT is defective. I have seen this as well, in many sets.

Usually when I have seen damage in the horizontal or vertical output stage,
there was sometimes damage in the power supply as well.

After replacing any defective parts, especialy semiconductors, it is
important to find the origional cause of the failure. If not, the new
replacment parts can be damaged as soon as the power is applied back again.

It may actualy be cheaper and more feasible for you to have a service center
repair the set for you. This is providing you didn't do more damage to it.

I have a problem with a Mitsubishi VS-5001CA
It blew the vertical deflection amp IC401 adn took out the PS as well.
all parts int eh Vertical section have been replaced and the PS has been
fixed.(PS proven in another TV)
now when the TV is turned on it goes into protect mode.
i read that this could still be the vertical CKT. Does anybody with
experience with this unit have an idea? I'm thinking maybe the flyback
transformer is gone but its hard to test and that is an expensive part
to gamble on. I also do not have the schematics. does anybody sell them?
i found this in a search. Thanks RJ,(your mail bounced BTW) I'll try it
to see if it is my Vertical still causign the shutdown.

Try the following:
1. SHUTDOWN CAN BE CAUSED BY NO VERTICAL DEFLECTION. SINCE THE VERTICAL
CIRCUIT IS POWERED BY THE SWITCHED POWER SUPPLY THE UNIT MUST BE TURNED ON
TO TROUBLESHOOT THE CIRCUIT. THIS CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED BY TEMPORARILY
DISCONNECTING THE VERTICAL INPUT TO THE X-PROTECT CIRCUIT. ** TO PREVENT
DAMAGE TO THE CRT'S YOU MUST UNPLUG THE CRT PCB'S. ** TO DEFEAT THE
X-PROTECT CIRCUIT, UNSOLDER D4A1 LOCATED OFF THE COLLECTOR OF Q4A1. IF THE
UNIT POWERS ON AT THIS POINT, YOU HAVE CONFIRMED A VERTICAL FAILURE AS THE
CAUSE FOR SHUTDOWN. ** D4A1 MUST BE REINSTALLED IN CIRCUIT TO PREVENT CRT
DAMAGE. **
  2. CHECK PIN 1 OF IC401 FOR 10.7VDC. IF LOW OR MISSING CHECK FOR SHORTED
D4000 (PART #264P487030) LOCATED OFF PIN 1. (PCB-MAIN) 3. CHECK FOR
DEFECTIVE IC401. IC401 PART 272P239040, OR INSTALL PT# IC-401, THIS KIT
CONTAINS CAPACITOR C920, D4000 AND IC401. BE SURE TO MOUNT C920 ON FOIL SIDE
OF PCB.
  I hope this helps you.
R.
