Cause: failure in the pincushion circuit. Usually a capacitor opened up
which caused a diode to fail, plus some other possible parts damage. Also
could be corrupted eeprom data due to tuner ground issues.
Worth fixing: if you take the tv into the servicer, typically around $100
or so to repair.
Has that tv been repaired for the common tuner ground issue yet? If not it
needs it when it is taken apart.
BTW if you chose not to have it repaired, please post your location so
someone here might be willing to pick the tv up to keep it out of the
landfill a little longer.
