Some further information on the problem:
 - this TV had a bad H-Stat block which was replaced (the old one was
arcing through and smoking when the TV was powered up)
 - the convergence control on the H-Stat block doesn't appear to do
anything when adjusted

It is possible that when the H-stat block shorted out that it burned
something else out. I don't have a schematic so its kinda difficult
for me to figure this one out. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.
