You don't have to take a magnet to them to be sure of erasing any
virus on them. I think that formating will take care of this.
Actually the only thing that you are likely to get from a floppy is a
boot sector virus which would get loaded if you tried to boot to a
floppy accidentally left in the drive when you last shut down. If you
go into your BIOS and set it NOT to try to boot from the floppy drive,
that will take care of the vast majority of your potential problems.
