This may be a problem with the character generator IC, or in the circuits
that reference it to be in sync with the incoming video. Without the service
manual and proper bench set-up, this will be difficult to service.
If you feel the set is worth to service, I would suggest to find out who the
Sharp service rep is for your area, and let them service this for you. This
way, you know it will be fixed safely and properly.
My preference would be to keep a new Panasonic set, over a used one of most
other types. Maybe your new Panasonic set has some faults in it, and this is
why the picture may not be so good.

I just bought a used Sharp 32" TV (32N-S350, made in 2000) from an individual. The image is very good, better than my new 32" Panasonic which I'm going to return if I can solve a problem with the Sharp on-screen display. When flipping channels, each time the channel changes, the on-screen display shows a huge channel number plus "Stereo-on air", SAP and something else I can't remember. If this text was unobtrusive and in a corner there wouldn't be any problem. But it's huge and floats over the images for what seems like an eternity. The menu (which I've been through many times) doesn't allow you to minimize the display. Is there any way a repair facility could adjust something to make it small and in a corner?
