not strictly an answer to your problem i know, but regarding the
eyestrain with the toshiba: I hope you tried reducing the brilliance
and contrast levels before returning it. Sets nearly always come
shipped with them pumped right up to attract customners in-store.
Adjusting that would probably have helped.

if the set you have now is a cheap brand (i have never heard of it,
but then i'm in europe) it probably has not got as good build quality
or shielding as the other set, hence the moire caused by the radio
interference as you identified..
